The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.

The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year.  The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

About the role

The Senior Policy Officer (Legislation and Policy) works as part of the Family Violence Policy and Practice Unit (FVPPU) who lead the Magistrates’ Court response to family violence.

The Senior Policy Officer will use strong conceptual and analytical skills to develop policy (and options for resolution of policy conflicts) which achieve the Court’s family violence priorities.

The Senior Policy Officer will focus on supporting the day to day operations of the FVPPU as well as the implementation of the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Family Violence, including planning, design and development of relevant initiatives and participation on working groups.

The Senior Policy Officer will also contribute to and support the FVPPU with broader development and delivery of court services and programs that support, protect and improve the outcomes for victims of family violence and hold perpetrators to account for their behaviour.
