The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria is currently expanding its Specialist Family Violence Services team of Family Violence Applicant and Respondent Practitioners based at various court locations across the state. The Family Violence Practitioners are an integral part of the Specialist Family Violence Court model. The specialist Family Violence Practitioner roles engage with Family Violence Intervention Order Applicants and/or Respondents attending court, conducting risk assessments and service need analysis, providing support through the court proceedings, developing safety plans, advocating for and referring victim survivors and perpetrators to appropriate services and programs.
The Family Violence Practice Manager provides leadership and support to the specialist Family Violence Practitioner workforce, as well as contribute to court reforms and initiatives including but not limited to;
