Use your skills and experience in cultural diversity and partnership development to help COTA SA positively influence health and fitness opportunities for older people in CALD and Indigenous communities.
Help us expand the Strength for Life fitness network to engage CALD and Indigenous elders
COTA SA is the peak body for 633,000 older people in South Australia. We believe ageing is a time of possibility, opportunity and influence and we offer a wide range of programs and services designed for, with and by older people. Our Strength for Life program promotes health and wellbeing amongst people over 50, and 40 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, through strength training programs run by accredited fitness providers. Established in 2004, there are now more than 100 fitness providers in our network and we’re constantly working to grow this number. The program encourages older South Australians across the state to attend strength training sessions by promoting the benefits of strength training and making this as accessible as possible. A strategic priority for COTA SA is to increase the number of older people from Indigenous and CALD backgrounds participating regularly in the Strength for Life program.
The Cultural Diversity Officer is a new role focused on increasing and promoting opportunities for older South Australians from CALD and Indigenous communities to participate in and benefit from the Strength for Life program. You will network amongst diverse communities across Adelaide metro and regional SA to recruit, support and resource strength training providers, through the Strength for Life Endorsement Scheme to maximise the range, quality and accessibility of options for older people from diverse communities, to participate in strength-based training. You’ll take an appropriately tailored and targeted approach to partnerships and community engagement, ensuring that the Strength for Life program attracts and retains its culturally diverse participants and providers. You’ll be accountable for achieving results against KPIs and you’ll contribute to regular program reporting to major stakeholder, Wellbeing SA.
Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll be part of the dedicated Strength for Life team, supported by COTA SA’s administrative, communications, volunteer and management staff. We offer flexible work arrangements, salary packaging and the opportunity to work for an organisation with purpose and impact.
To be considered for this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
COTA SA strongly encourages applications from candidates identifying as CALD or Indigenous.
As COTA SA is currently operating as a remote workplace you will work initially from your home office and from COTA SA’s Adelaide city offices from January 2021.
Regular intrastate travel will be required.
A laptop and phone will be provided as part of the role.
The role is offered on a part-time basis of 0.6FTE (work days flexible and negotiable) to 30 June 2022.
Candidates are encouraged to review the position description available at cotasa.org.au/lib/pdf/about_us/Cultural-Diversity-Officer-SFL-PD.pdf and submit their CV along with a one page cover letter outlining their suitability for the role.
