About the role

The Nurse Continence Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the National Continence Helpline, delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based clinical advice to consumers, carers and health professionals. Beyond helpline support, you will collaborate with colleagues across Continence Health Australia to contribute to:

• Education and health promotion initiatives
• Development and review of consumer and professional resources
• Clinical input into organisational programs and campaigns

This role offers variety, professional development, and the chance to shape continence care at a national level.

Here’s what you will be doing

Providing clinical expertise

• Delivering high‑quality continence advice with empathy and respect
• Maintaining and enhancing continence assessment with up to date health promotion
  skills

Communication and collaboration

• Building strong relationships with consumers, health professionals and the community
• Accurately documenting interactions in National Continence Helpline systems
• Actively contributing to a supportive, collaborative team environment where learnings are shared. We work together to provide support and development.

Education, projects and promotion

• Contributing to development and delivery of health promotions and education sessions
  for health professionals and community groups
• Representing Continence Health Australia at conferences and events
• Supporting continuous improvement of helpline procedures and services

Professional development and accountability

• Maintaining mandatory training and ongoing professional development
• Contributing to quality improvement, governance and compliance activities

What you’ll bring

Essential

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
• Minimum 5 years post‑registration nursing experience, including 2+ years recent continence nursing experience
• Strong commitment to evidence‑based practice and continuous professional development
• High computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Salesforce
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated empathy and professionalism
• Strong organisation skills, attention to detail and problem solving capability
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• A proactive, can‑do approach for improving continence outcomes

Desirable

• Postgraduate qualification in continence health
• Additional nursing qualifications (e.g. Midwifery, Aged Care, Mental Health)
• Experience across multiple age groups, particularly in primary or community health
• Experience developing and delivering education programs
• Experience supporting people with complex health needs affecting bladder and bowel function

Compliance requirements

To be appointed, you will need:

• Current Working with Children Check
• National Police Check
• Compliance with RN and AHPRA requirements
• Commitment to child safety, workplace health and safety, and quality improvement
