The organisation

Financial Rights Legal Centre (Financial Rights) is a community based legal centre in Surry Hills specialising in helping consumers of financial services, particularly credit, banking, insurance and debt.

The role

We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic Financial Counsellor for a full time 12 month contract with potential to renew subject to funding. Part time options will be considered. Experience essential. Commitment to consumer rights essential. The position involves providing information, financial counselling advice and referrals via the centres intake channels. The channels include, the National Debt hotline, the National Debt Website chat, Mob Strong Debt Help, the Caseworker line and an intake channel for individuals in custody. The role also includes providing advocacy for clients via task assistance or ongoing casework. Please see the job description for further details on the role.

The successful applicant will

  • Hold or be eligible to hold accreditation as a financial counsellor with the Financial Counselling Association of NSW (FCAN)
  • Experience providing financial counselling services
  • Demonstrated ability to provide non-judgemental, quality service delivery to disadvantaged clients
  • Have a passion for social justice, systemic, aptitude for advocacy and awareness of the social context of clients
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Comply with NSW current public health orders and requirements with COVID vaccination
