Concern Australia is a grassroots welfare organisation that emerged out of the work of Rev Dr John Smith who also nurtured the growth of the God’s Squad Christian Motorcycle Club in the 1970s. ABOUT THE ROLE

The key focus of the Youth Engagement Officer’s role is to enhance the work of the Hand Brake Turn program and fiXit Social Enterprise which provides pre-vocational automotive training in a fully functioning workshop environment.

Through brokering referrals to further education, apprenticeships and traineeships, the Youth Engagement Officer will ensure vulnerable young people are supported through their Hand Brake Turn and fiXit experience and then to settle into their employment.

This position is funded through the Building Safer Communities Fund and has a focus on youth justice in the North West region.

This is a part time, 0.8 FTE 2-year fixed term position that can be spread over 4-5 days, and will be based at our North West office in Braybrook.

This position is classified in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 MA000100, with the salary range Level 3 and the salary level to be commensurate with skills and experience.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The successful applicant for this position will be able to demonstrate:

Essential:

  • Communications skills, including an ability to work in a team environment and to engage and support young people towards their goals.
  • Commitment and personal desire to adhere to Concern Australia’s Mission, Vision, Values and Goals.
  • Knowledge and empathy on how to work with disadvantaged young people and their families in a youth justice setting.
  • Willingness to obtain a valid Working with Children Check, satisfactory National Police Check (or International where required).
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.

Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualification in either community development, social sciences or other related qualification and/or relevant experience.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Relevant experience within a Community Service Organisation or RTO.

Appointments are subject to eligibility and the legal right to work in Australia.

Appointments are subject to satisfactory Working with Children Check, National Police Check, International Police Check (If resided overseas for a period of 12 months or longer for the past 10 years) and other employment screening or credential checks as determined by the position description.

This role is considered an ‘authorised worker’. Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of an immunisation assessment and COVID-19 Vaccination (or valid exemption) prior to commencement.
