Community Wheels Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation delivering community transport services in Parramatta and Cumberland LGAs. Our office is located in Northmead.

We provide accessible and affordable transport options for elderly people in these areas, younger people with disabilities and their carers, or transport disadvantaged residents. We offer transport for medical, shopping and social outings to eligible clients and pride ourselves on the quality of service we provide to those in need.

A permanent part-time position has become available for a Social Inclusion Coordinator with flexible work hours available.

About the role

The role of Social Inclusion Coordinator will be to:

  • develop twice-a-year social inclusion program to create opportunities for social engagement and enable stronger community participation
  • develop a quarterly newsletter focused at external stakeholders
  • promote and distribute social inclusion program and newsletter among service users, Parramatta and Cumberland councils, other charities and local community groups including culturally & linguistically diverse (CALD) consumers/groups
  • assist in increasing bus hire of Community Wheels vehicles by promptly responding to group or individual bus hire enquires
  • work rosters as directed, carrying out roster duties and instructions as per organisational policies and procedures
  • participate in internal/external training, meetings or community forums as directed by the organisation from time to time

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • investigate suitable venues for social outings and events
  • investigate costs, availability, accessibility, opening days/hours (ref to Planning A Social Program Procedure)
  • work out individual costing for outings/events (bus, meals, entry tickets, cruise, etc.) within stipulated budget guidelines
  • complete a risk assessment for all venues
  • arrange tax invoices for events and coordinate with Finance department for payments
  • book individual client trips in RouteMatch system including pick up points, destinations and fares to be collected
  • contact clients with their pick up time the day before each outing
  • welcome first time clients on social outings and make them feel comfortable
  • generate quotes for bus hire requests based on information collected by potential hirer, eg. pick up and drop off locations, number of people, booking date and time, hiring with or without driver, etc.
  • ensure that services run as close to schedule as possible
  • strictly adhere to the legal passenger carrying capacity of vehicles at all times
  • undertake other related tasks as required by management from time to time

Other general duties:

  • abide by organisational policies, code of conduct and WHS guidelines at all times
  • not engage in any kind of workplace bullying, harassment or intimidation, or inappropriate behaviour
  • abide by the organisation’s smoke-free environment policy - smoking is not permitted on Community Wheels premises and vehicles
  • abide by the organisation’s drug and alcohol free environment policy - guided by Passenger Transport Act 1990

Essential criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in related field and/or minimum two years’ experience in a similar role
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively and collaboratively in a small team environment
  • Ability to plan and execute projects and manage competing priorities under tight deadlines
  • Advanced computer skills and willing to learn internal systems/applications
  • Class C driver licence
  • Australian citizen/resident with full working rights
  • Be prepared to work flexible hours
  • Be prepared to undertake periodical drug and alcohol workplace testing
  • Willing to undertake national police check and Working with Children Check

Desirable skills

  • Demonstrated experience working with CALD communities, elderly or people with a disability in Cumberland and Parramatta LGAs
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Prior experience in working with frail aged people and people with disabilities
  • Sound knowledge of WHS requirement relevant to the position
