Community Wheels Inc. (CWI) is a not-for-profit organisation operating in the City of Parramatta and Cumberland Council areas. Our office is located in Northmead.

CWI offers accessible and affordable transport options for people who are transport disadvantaged, frail, aged and younger people with disabilities and their carers. We offer transport for medical, shopping and social outings to eligible clients and pride ourselves on the quality of service we provide to people in need.

The Role

We are looking for a General Manager (GM) who can lead CWI in the day to day operations of the organisation, its people, clients and resources. The GM ensures that the organisation’s structure and processes meet the strategic and cultural needs of the organisation by having overall responsibility for:

  • Advancing the Vision, Purpose and Organisational Performance
  • Ensuring the organisation is responsive to the needs of the communities it serves
  • Creating and implementing a strategic plan approved by the Management Committee
  • Providing leadership, direction and building a strong and positive team culture
  • Ensuring financial strength and sustainability
  • Effectively engaging with the chairperson of the board and key stakeholders
  • Managing organisational risk and ensuring compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, quality and funding body requirements.

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have strong business management experience, with an ability to drive growth through innovation and creativity.

Other requirements include:

  • A Degree or Diploma in an appropriate discipline or equivalent combination of skills, knowledge and experience
  • A minimum of five years’ recent experience in a senior managerial capacity in similar organisations
  • Demonstrated ability to bring a strategic focus to the organisation and its services
  • High level knowledge and understanding of the community sector, including key reforms and their potential impact
  • Demonstrated senior capacity to successfully lead and manage large-scale organisational change
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and people management skills
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively work with the chairperson and the board
  • Proven skills in relationship building and effective stakeholder engagement
  • High level financial management skills and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new funding/income streams and capitalise on growth opportunities
  • Experience in Continuous Quality Improvement practices and the maintenance of accredited organisational standards
  • Understanding of social justice, access and equity and an appreciation of workplace diversity.
