About the role

This permanent part time position (7 days per fortnight) will provide case management and support services within the Bowen Youth Access and Support Service based in Bowen and including outreach services to Collinsville and surrounding areas. Bowen Youth Access and Support works to assist vulnerable young people aged 8-21 years by engaging, assisting and encouraging them to access relevant support services and providing opportunities for them to facilitate positive life choices and minimise their personal risk.

This position will take a strengths based approach to case management that will assist participants to identify achievable goals and activities that will support them with their pathways. This may include supporting participants to address barriers, linking them with specialist support services and facilitating group based activities.

The Youth Support Worker will have an understanding of the issues faced by young people ‘at risk’ and will identify and link participants with appropriate opportunities and supports to overcome their barriers. The key to success in this role will be the ability to build relationships with service users as well as successfully networking across both the local private and community sectors.

About You

You will have a solid understanding of the issues impacting young people including barriers to employment, education and participation in mainstream services.

The successful applicant will also ideally have:

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting vulnerable participants to access appropriate support services
  • Relevant qualifications and/or experience within Community Services, Youth Work, Employment Services or a similar sector.
  • Ability to build rapport and motivate clients
  • Excellent interpersonal and consultation skills to enable the fostering of strong networks within the community
  • Demonstrated competence in computer applications

A current and valid driver’s licence is essential, as is a current Blue Card and Yellow Card, or the willingness to gain one.
