About the role:

This role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work in a supportive work environment including the provision of administrative support, scheduling and coordinating of client’s services, a diverse client referral base and to be part of a collaborative team with progressive values and a positive organisational culture.

The primary role of the Mental Health Clinician is to work within a Wellbeing in Aged Care team providing short-term mental health interventions and support to residents of aged care facilities living with mental health conditions within the Western Sydney area.

This will include undertaking mental health assessments, counselling and developing care plans in conjunction with the older person (resident) and identified family, residential aged care staff and other professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide evidence-based, focused psychological therapy (CBT, ACT, psycho-education, relaxation strategies, skills training, interpersonal therapy) either face to face or via Telehealth to clients aged 65 to 95 years who have been referred by a residential aged care facility (RACF) under a GP Mental Health Care Plan or under other funding arrangements.
  • Maintain accurate case notes for clients using an electronic clinical record and according to Practice protocols and professional standards.
  • Contribute to service planning, development of policy and procedures relevant to assessment and service provision. Contribute to care plans and participate in case review meetings and planned case conferences with GPs and other health professionals involved in the client’s care as required.
  • Provide written reports to the client’s Aged Care Providers, family and/ or referring GP with information regarding assessments undertaken, treatment provided; and recommendations on future management of the client's disorder, according to Practice protocols.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Psychology or Social Work.
  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist / Clinical social worker.
  • Current registration with Medicare as an approved provider.
  • Experience in assessment and diagnosis of mental health disorders, and provision of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and other evidence-based focused psychological strategies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of key issues in comprehensive Primary Health Care, particularly in relation to the health and wellbeing needs of older adults and residents of aged care facilities.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of issues related to Culturally and linguistically diverse clients (CALD) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (AATSI) culturally appropriate frameworks for delivery of Recovery- Based therapy.
  • Bilingual (Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Filipino/Tagalog, Urdu, Greek, Spanish).
