About this opportunity

Community First Step is currently seeking enthusiastic and experienced individuals who are dedicated to provide client centered support and service in various areas of our Disability services program (Day Program, Community Access and SIL (supported independent Living accommodation services) in Southwest Sydney. This is a casual role the successful applicant should be willing to accept any shift across all five days including sleepover shifts in our accommodation services. Sleepover shifts will include a minimum of 4 hours before or after shifts.

As a Disability Support Worker you will:

  • Implement programs to support clients to grow their living skills and abilities so they are more able to make decisions affecting their lives, live as independently as possible and participate in the community.
  • Support clients to develop and maintain independence and becoming members of the community.
  • Perform various domestic duties including menu planning, cooking and serving meals, cleaning, shopping, laundry and other activities of daily living.
  • Implement personal support plans for individuals who demonstrate challenging behaviours and/or with high physical support needs.
  • Assistance in personal care tasks.
  • Flexibility to work across different shifts including sleepover and weekend.
  • Handling complex or challenging situations or behaviours calmly and rationally.
  • Support client in all their activities of daily living and personal care
  • Maintain the client’s privacy and confidentiality.
  • Administer and recording participant medication and progress.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Willing to travel to all Sydney Metro areas.
  • Have a full comprehensive vehicle insurance.
  • Must hold a current NSW.
  • Other ad hoc tasks asked by the manager.

The right person for this position will possess:

  • A commitment to promoting and supporting the individual needs of our clients
  • The ability to develop positive relationships with our clients and to support their individual care plans.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluency in community languages (Arabic, Polynesians or Vietnamese) will be highly regarded although not essential.
  • Flexibility to work across the week including weekend and public holiday shifts.
  • Experience with mental health, complex and challenging behaviors, and high physical support needs will be highly regarded.
  • A current Australian Driver's License
  • NSW Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
  • National Police Check (with in the last 6 months or willingness to obtain).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate (or willingness to obtain).
