Consumers of Mental Health WA (CoMHWA) is the peak body for consumers of mental health services in WA. As a community based not for profit organisation, CoMHWA understands, listens and acts upon the voice of consumers of mental health and the wider community.

About the role

CoMHWA’s Systemic Advocate will lead effective advocacy systems that influence outcomes for people with lived experience of mental health issues, and to build networks, peer support and opportunities to progress CoMHWA’s strategic plan. The successful candidate will be effective in coordinating strategic stakeholder collaboration, engagement and research to progress informed and effective policy responses, as well as collaborate with colleagues to identify current and emerging issues within the mental health sector.

This is a permanent, part-time position – 60 hours per fortnight. Negotiable working arrangements for preferred candidate. Immediate start.

To be successful:

• Lived experience of mental health recovery.
• Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with a strong team orientation and consumer focus.
• Proven skills in achieving satisfactory advocacy outcomes within a policy and/or support setting.
• Experience and/or demonstrated skills in policy, research and stakeholder engagement.
• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present work in a consistent and highly professional manner.
• Demonstrated planning and outstanding organisational skills, especially in relation to meeting deadlines and managing competing priorities.
• Ability to work with, support and influence peers.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills in order to develop strategies, ideas and opportunities for resolving issues.
• Tertiary or other qualification and/or experience relevant to the role.
