Consumers of Mental Health WA (CoMHWA) seeks to appoint up to three Non-Executive Directors. The roles require attending approximately twelve, monthly Board meetings annually, any General Meetings of the Members including the AGM and serving on Board subcommittees as required. Attendance at some functions with stakeholders and participation in Board development workshops is also expected. Successful candidates will stand for election at the AGM to be held in late October.
Applicants must be people who identify as having a current or past lived experience of psychological or emotional issues, distress or problems, irrespective of whether they have a diagnosed mental illness and/or have received treatment. CoMHWA is seeking individuals with proven leadership experience with an understanding of the mental health consumer movement.
It is a requirement of the association that applicants are or become an Individual or Associate Individual Member of CoMHWA. A National Police Certificate is mandatory for all Board members and for successful applicants, the cost of this will be reimbursed by CoMHWA. Proof of Covid vaccination is also required.

Consumers of Mental Health WA Inc. is the peak body representing consumers of mental health services in WA, it is a not-for-profit, consumer organisation led by and for consumers. CoMHWA’s vision is for a world where people with lived experience of mental health issues are self-directed, self-empowered, respected and connected to community. Its core purpose is to strengthen and advance the voice, leadership and expertise of people with lived experience of mental health issues. This is achieved through advocacy, education and training, peer support and consultation. The majority of CoMHWA’s funding is derived from the WA Mental Health Commission (MHC) with increasing amounts coming from other sources. CoMHWA is classed as a medium-sized charity under the ACNC regulations.
