Nestled on the banks of Birrarung, Collingwood Children’s Farm was founded in 1979 to support and engage local children experiencing adversity. A much loved non-profit organisation and registered charity, the Farm’s reason for being remains true to its roots: community engagement, education and nature connection with green space and animals.

The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Community Engagement Manager and is responsible for multiple volunteer and community program streams, including:

  • Individual volunteering - roles specific and inclusive pathways
  • School and group programs
  • Work Experience pathways
  • Team experiences

The Volunteer Coordinator implements, supports, evaluates and reviews a range of quality volunteer programs at Collingwood Children’s Farm. The Farm seeks a part time Volunteer Coordinator, working 22.8 hrs per week with the option to distribute these hours flexibly.

You will work collaboratively to meet the diverse volunteer requirements of the Farm, managing corporate, role-specific and community program streams in a way that supports Farm operations, aligns with CCF mission and purpose and, in the case of paid team experiences, generates revenue that help the Farm to care for its animals, conserve this heritage farmland, and fund inclusive programs to support those experiencing adversity.

The Volunteer Coordinator collaborates closely with the broader Farm team.

Responsibilities include:

Program Coordination

  • Work collaboratively with CCF management and relevant staff to identify volunteer requirements / opportunities and action requests for volunteers in a timely manner, ensuring optimum numbers of appropriate volunteers are engaged.
  • In conjunction with CCF management, and in consultation with relevant staff, review and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the program / services, identify opportunities for improvement (or new initiatives), and implement agreed follow up actions to ensure the program continues to meet the needs of CCF and stakeholders.
  • Development and coordination of the CCF Team Experience Program (ex corporate volunteering), overseeing its transition to a revenue generating program.
  • Development and coordination of CCF individual and group volunteer and community programs.
  • Provide administrative support to CCF Community Engagement Programs
  • Other duties as reasonably required in order to meet the team and organisation’s objectives

Volunteer Coordination and Support

Effectively coordinate all aspects of the life cycle of volunteers, including:

  • Inclusive recruitment, selection and placement of volunteers in accordance with CCF’s policy and procedures.
  • Ensuring all volunteers have a clearly defined role and role description upon commencement and a clear understanding of their role.
  • Ensure volunteers have an appropriate induction.
  • Produce volunteer rosters for various programs.
  • Ensure volunteers are appropriately recognised and rewarded, including acknowledging achievements internal and other external opportunities for volunteer recognition.
  • Supporting volunteers through regular contact and providing pathways for the resolution of identified issues.
  • Utilising ‘Better Impact’ volunteer management program, ensure volunteer’s files contain all required, current and valid information including Working with Children Checks and any other necessary requirements specific to the volunteer’s role.
  • Monitor the performance of volunteers to ensure duties are performed in a safe and professional manner.
  • Encourage volunteers to identify unsafe activities and areas, including ideas for improving safety standards.
