Code Black Psychology

About Code Black:

Code Black is a boutique agency in Melbourne providing interdisciplinary services in cases of interpersonal harms, such as cases of stalking, bullying, harassment, family violence and coercive control. Our core offering brings curiosity and critical thinking to situations previously thought of as either too complex or too ingrained to be resolvable. Our team thrives on supporting the resolution of these low base rate, high impact situations. Our focus includes articulating the subtleties of problematic behaviours and the evidence base methods to create change.

About the Role:

This is a newly created role due to increasing demand for our services. It is a great opportunity to join a small and professional team where the work is always fascinating. The role is envisaged to increase the diversity of the team and the capacity of Code Black to respond to referrals for services for perpetrators, victim survivors, and organisations. Your interests and experience will help shape the role, particularly where your skill set can enhance the team’s ability to provide clear case formulations, diagnostic clarity and agile interventions. An interest in research translation and facilitating bespoke training will also be valued.

The position:

  • Part-time or full-time, 12-month fixed term contract with the potential for ongoing employment
  • Preference will be given to psychologists with an endorsed area of practice (clinical, forensic, neuropsychology), although college registrars and generally registered psychologists are welcome to apply
  • The role will be best suited to a clinician who would thrive on a small case load (typically 3-5 cases) where case formulations can be based on forensically reviewing extensive case histories, stakeholder interviews and direct assessment of perpetrators or victim survivors. Some consultations will utilise indirect assessments where the focus is facilitating workplace safety and clarifying organisational responsibilities
  • You will be part of a psychologically safe team where many cases have two staff assigned to review complex files, provide the direct assessments and write plain language, highly practical reports
  • Code Black is an equal opportunity employer, we encourage flexibility for our team members balancing life’s demands, with time and support to undertake further professional development through an engaging career
  • We encourage a balance of working from home with being at our office in the Malvern area, including facilitating flexible hours
  • An attractive salary is negotiable depending upon qualifications and experience, plus super and leave entitlements

The desired candidate for the position will:

  • Enjoy working in a psychological safe environment, able to contribute and hold a positive attitude towards others. You will have a sense of humour, fun and enjoyment for life.
  • Enjoy working collaboratively and in a non-judgemental way with difficult to engage clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with navigating organisational environments and engaging with numerous stakeholders involved in providing services to complex clients
  • Enjoy communicating and working with stakeholders and be supportive to solving the social complexity of care teams being divided on the issues and their solution

Skills and experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years clinical experience in the healthcare or justice sectors
  • Confidence in current diagnostic practices and developing evidenced based case formulations
  • Experience in providing psychological services to complex people and in complex situations
  • Experience working with diverse and marginalised communities
  • Demonstrable strength in plain language report writing and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues developing evidenced-based case formulations

Mandatory qualifications and registration:

  • APAC accredited masters or doctorate degree in psychology, preferably in the fields of clinical psychology, neuropsychology or forensic psychology
  • Endorsed registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA) and registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Australian Psychological Society (APS)
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • This position is subject to a Police Check and Working with Children Check
