You will bring a fresh perspective to our business transformation, allowing you the opportunity to influence, challenge, lead and explore areas within your portfolio while collaborating with teams outside of your specialised area.

A little bit about the role

This is a new and exciting role for 2021! Our Waste Strategy Officer will have a strategic role in the development and implementation of our circular economy response to waste management and recycling and be given the scope to think creatively in identifying new and emerging challenges and opportunities in the public waste industry.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders and our community to ensure a well-rounded approach to leading a range of complex environmental projects that will have direct community outcomes. You will take a lead role in developing and implementing environmental sustainability strategies and policies, as well as managing mentoring team members and providing specialist guidance and support to other Council staff.

You will be directly responsible for implementing and updating Council’s waste mitigation and recycling strategy and work closely with our sustainability education officers, and operational teams who are delivering curbside waste and recycling programs. More broadly, you will assist the Coordinator other activities necessary to operate an effective team including; business planning, budgeting, team meetings and professional development.

To thrive in this role you will bring your extensive experience in environmental management, waste management and recycling. You have demonstrated experience in effectively managing projects both big and small and have the ability to build strong professional relationships. You will be working with our community so previous experience in community consultation is ideal.
