The Role

Working within Coast Shelters Trauma Responsive Framework you will strive to enhance the lives of young people in our residential accommodation programs.

Working with the young people you will help create a home like environment and tailor your support to the individual needs of each young person. Supporting young people to attain their educational goals, undertake extracurricular activities in line with their interests and supporting their connection to community and family.

Success in the role will demand an understanding of the causes and impact of homelessness and an empathic approach to those in our community who may find themselves on the outer: homeless and disadvantaged.

To be considered for the position you must be able to address the essential criteria below;

  • Tertiary Qualifications diploma level or higher
  • Form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people by building trust through visible interest and active engagement
  • Act as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth
  • Ability to motivate and engage with young people
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and attitudes
  • Excellent communication with proven written and oral communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office

Please note: Our residential youth shelters operate on a 24/7 roster model. Therefore, successful candidates will be required to work a range of shifts including weekends, nights, sleepovers, and public holidays.
