The Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Victoria, providing specialist knowledge and support to young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. Our vision is that young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds are connected, empowered and influential Australians.

About the Role

The Youth Intern is a position that incorporates skill and professional development and opportunity for a wide range of work activities including policy research, data analysis and administrative and secretariat duties.

This role was created with support of the Victorian Government’s Working for Victoria initiative, and as part of CMY’s commitment to providing opportunities for young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, who often face significant disadvantages in attaining professional work experience and opportunities.

Only people from a Pasifika background are eligible to apply for this role under the special Measures provision section 12 (1) of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).

  • Hours: 38 hours per week (1 FTE) , Full Time
  • Fixed Term: until 31 December 2021
  • Base Salary (SCHADS Level 2) : $56, 138 per annum plus Super and access to Salary Packaging
  • Location: Primarily home based, with majority of work online but will support programs and events.
  • Applications Close: Midday 12:00pm, Monday 1 March 2021
  • Interviews: to be held in the week beginning 8 March 2021

You will have

  1. Demonstrated understanding of the issues experienced by young people from Pasifika backgrounds;
  2. Strong written and organisational skills with an ability to complete tasks in a timely manner;
  3. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work in a team and under general direction;
  4. Capacity to show creativity, flexibility and initiative in a work setting.
  5. Knowledge and use of online media platforms would be an advantage.
