The Clean Energy Council is the peak body for the clean energy industry in Australia. We are a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation. We represent and work with Australia's leading renewable energy and energy storage businesses, as well as rooftop solar installers, to further the development of clean energy in Australia.

The Policy Officer works closely with the Director Energy Transformation to undertake policy development and engagement work on key electricity market and transmission network matters. Given the unprecedented transition underway in the energy sector, there is a heightened focus on these market and grid reforms so this role will be involved in some of the most critical issues for renewable energy development across Australia at present.

We are seeking a Policy Officer with strong writing skills, an ability to engage with a range of different stakeholders and with some experience in policy analysis and development. Ideally you will have some energy market knowledge but more importantly, you will have a keen interest in energy markets and the ability to understand and respond to complex, technical matters. Working closely with the Director Energy Transformation, you will be principally responsible for engaging with CEC members to develop the CEC’s policy position on different reform matters and articulating this position in written submissions. You must have the ability to assess the political, commercial, and operational implications of arising policy matters, and ensure all work activities are carried out in a thorough, well-researched, accurate and timely manner.

Key objectives for the role are:

• Policy analysis and development, both independent and under the direction of the Director Energy Transformation.
• Articulate the CEC’s position in written submissions and through representing the CEC at external forums and working groups.
• Build and maintain relationships with key regulatory and government stakeholders and the CEC’s over 800 members.
• Assist the Director Energy Transformation with the development and implementation of advocacy projects and campaigns.
• Assist with the coordination of the CEC’s market and grid directorate, including preparing briefing papers for members and associated directorate administration.
• Produce content for advocacy and communication purposes, including drafting reports, briefing papers, presentations, and input to media.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Policy analysis and development experience and/or knowledge.
• Some understanding of the energy market is highly desirable.
• Technical and analytical skills and the ability to digest and analyse information quickly to provide recommendations.
• Excellent writing skills and the ability to produce submissions that are logically argued, accurate and concise.
• Capacity to build and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships.
• Sound judgement and strong attention to detail.
• Relevant tertiary education qualification e.g. energy, engineering (renewable, electrical, power systems preferred), public policy, economics or law
