As the Media Manager, you will play a crucial role in positioning the Clean Energy Council and leading the narrative of clean energy in Australia.

Reporting to the Executive General Manager - Industry Development, the Media Manager is a uniting voice for our diverse industry, making the public case for transforming Australia’s energy system into one that is smarter and cleaner. You will play a critical role in building and defending the Clean Energy Council’s reputation by developing and implementing media strategies, advocating for better government policy and converting technical information into compelling stories and angles. The key responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Develop and lead the Clean Energy Council’s media strategies and responses
  • Position the Clean Energy Council as the leading peak body in the energy industry
  • Represent the interests of Clean Energy Council members through mainstream and social media channels by promoting positive aspects of the clean energy industry and managing emerging issues
  • Write media responses, editorials, and stories, and distribute to media and through the Clean Energy Council’s key channels (email, website and social media)
  • Monitor media and social media channels
  • Write a daily update to members on the latest media stories related to the clean energy industry
  • Help with editing and proofing technical policy documents and converting this complex information into simple communications for the industry
  • Have input into advocacy campaign strategies and play an active role in implementation to influence energy policy outcomes.

The role will suit someone with 5-10 years’ experience in the media industry who is ready to take that next step and lead the media strategy for the Clean Energy Council. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum five years' experience, ideally in journalism and in a related communications or media management position
  • Experience in a member-based organisation viewed favourably
  • Successful completion of a tertiary degree in a related field
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver results within strict deadlines, including practical knowledge and experience working within the national 24-hour media cycle
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated experience in a wide variety of high-quality written communication and in developing working relationships with the national media
  • Ability to effectively manage the requests and priorities of a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in the development and execution of media and communications strategies
  • Ability to work proactively and autonomously while also being an effective team player
  • Ability to convert technical information into content that is easily digestible by the general public
  • Flexibility and willingness to work outside of standard office hours at short notice
  • Sense of humour
  • Experience and knowledge of state and federal politics well regarded.
