About the role

This role forms part of the highly motivated and engaged Connected Communities team that sits within the Community Life division that strives to develop healthy, active, connected and safe communities through the delivery of community facilities, events, experiences and life cycle services from birth to older age.

The Aboriginal Youth Case Worker and Mentor is responsible for providing culturally appropriate mentoring and support to Aboriginal young people in the City of Casey. This position will ensure the success and sustainability of youth programs at the Casey Aboriginal Gathering Place and provide culturally appropriate case management.

In this role you will

  • Case manage and mentor Casey's Aboriginal young people involving assessment, individual case plans, monitoring, planning, advocacy and linking clients with support services.
  • Support in the development of innovative strategies to engage and encourage Aboriginal young people to participate in culturally specific youth programs and activities
  • Engagement - Build on and leverage the previous consultation undertaken with the Aboriginal community.
  • Report on Key Performance Indicators on schedule as indicated in the Casey Aboriginal Gathering Place Community Advancement Program Project Description

About you

  • You will have a tertiary qualification in social work, counselling, psychology or related discipline and be skilled in assessment and counselling.
  • You will be able to provide both individual support and facilitate group work and adapt behaviour to new situations, be resilient and maintain stable performance when under pressure or opposition.
  • Proven relevant experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.
