Northcote Uniting Church is a congregation of the Uniting Church in Australia, in the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania.
Northcote Uniting Church is doing new things in Northcote High Street. For the first time in many years, there is a recognised congregation. We desire to be a blessing to the street by breathing new life into the site and creating a thriving hub of community activity. This will provide pathways for people to connect with one another and experience life-giving community. We want to enhance our capacity to make the most of what our prominent High St position affords us.
Northcote Uniting Church has a congregation of around 20 people, who are mainly working professionals and students aged 20-60 years. We are currently experiencing a period of further growth.
The Mission and Ministry Enabler is a newly-created role. It is part time (0.6FTE) role on a 2-year contract (with possibility for extension).
The purpose of this role is to help the Northcote Uniting Church congregation establish itself in its recently reactivated site, by:
The Mission and Ministry Enabler will be part of a dedicated ministry team making a lively congregational and community presence in Northcote Uniting Church which will help us to reach our full potential for community engagement and impact.
This dynamic and varied role will ‘enable’ Northcote Uniting Church's mission and ministry by providing front-of-house support (e.g. maintaining a physical presence in the church, community engagement, relationship management with hirers and partners, social media/online presence) and back-of-house support (e.g. room booking and invoicing systems, attending to safety compliance requirements) so that we can offer a safe, hospitable, well-known and well-trusted church space to our growing congregation, and the surrounding community.
It is expected that the Mission and Ministry Enabler will build expertise in what is required for such a role, and will occasionally resource other small, local Uniting Churches with this expertise.
Occasional work may be required out of normal business hours (e.g. for one-off events), and this flexibility is built into the role.
You will be an all-rounder who is equally at home when engaging with people as when managing systems and processes. Experience and/or enthusiasm for community development, relationship management, operations and event coordination, and administrative systems and processes will hold you in good stead in this role.
Applicants will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check, and their employment will be subject to satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Check.
Please review the attached position description before applying to familiarise yourself with the full list of the ideal candidate’s knowledge, experience, skills, abilities and personal attributes.
Given the diversity of the role, we are not requiring applicants to meet 100% of our selection criteria and we fully anticipate that you will have areas of relative strength and opportunities for growth. If you meet many or most of these criteria and are committed to developing in the areas where you don’t, we would still love to hear from you. We think that the right attitude and personal attributes are more important than specific skills and experiences.
