This position is within the CERES Outreach Education team who deliver the ResourceSmart Schools program to schools and early childhood centres in the Metropolitan Regions of Melbourne. ResourceSmart Schools brings together sustainability educators and delivery organisations to help Victorian schools minimise waste, save energy and water, improve biodiversity in their school grounds, and cut their greenhouse gas emissions. The framework helps guide schools to develop a ‘whole school approach’ to sustainability, weaving it into the fabric of everyday school and community life. It integrates educational, environmental, social and economic outcomes so that schools do not work with each area in isolation but as components of the bigger picture of sustainability. There are five modules to the program, each with its own focus and set of goals – Core Module, Biodiversity Module, Energy Module, Waste Module, Water Module. Delivery includes teacher professional development workshops, resource data management, auditing, strategic planning, systems and infrastructure change and community engagement.

This position includes providing services such as:

  • Initial meetings with school leadership, key staff and parents to introduce the program.
  • Professional development workshops to staff.
  • School committee/working group meetings.
  • Regional professional development workshops for clusters of schools.
  • Assisting with assessment and certification of ResourceSmart modules and stars.
  • Maintaining school records and assisting with reporting via an online management system.
  • Maintaining consistent communication between CERES and schools via email, phone etc.

This role also involves:

  • Attending local events, conferences and partner meetings when required.
  • Attending the required training and courses to aid improved work practice.
  • Attending the required meetings with CERES staff, partners and associates.

The ideal candidate will be available to commence in mid February 2020. Please note CERES Education closes over the Christmas and New Year period and employees are directed to take leave during this time.
