About the Centre for Public Integrity

Established in 2019, the Centre for Public Integrity is a collaboration of former judges and integrity experts dedicated to preventing corruption, protecting the integrity of our accountability institutions, and eliminating undue influence of money in politics. We are an independent think tank registered as a research institute charity.

The role

This newly created position has been established by the Board of the Centre for Public Integrity to provide daily ongoing support to the Executive Director. This critical role will see routine duties of the Executive Director delegated to the Policy and Research Officer.

This will include assistance in the oversight, administration and research for the following project committees:

  • National Integrity Commission
  • Protection of Accountability Institutions
  • Money in Politics
  • Accountability of the COVID-19 response

The aim of the Centre’s research is to inform public debate and policy reform in each of these areas. The Centre’s briefing papers are based on rigorous analysis and offer insights “that we didn’t know”, focussing public attention on “what we should do”.

The research areas each include the understanding and implementation of:

  • Collaborating with Executive Director and project committees on research strategy and project ideas
  • Liaising with relevant experts
  • Analysis of legislation, Parliamentary sources, electoral donations data and other research sources
  • Drafting and editing briefing papers and submissions
  • Assisting with messaging and drafting of media releases
  • Assisting with coordination of project committee meetings

This role is 24 hours per week on a 12-month contract. As the Centre for Public Integrity is a new and growing organisation, we expect that the role will also grow over time.

Remuneration for this role is budgeted at the pro-rata rate $76103 plus 9.5% super. At 24 hours per week this equates to $45,662 plus super.

Selection criteria

  1. Graduate or postgraduate qualification in law
  2. Demonstrated research skills
  3. Experience engaging with policy and regulatory reform, with some understanding of Parliamentary processes
  4. Understanding of integrity and accountability legislation, institutions and issues
  5. Experience communicating complicated legal issues in a clear and concise format
  6. Ability to work in a small team environment, where autonomy and self-initiative are exercised in addition to willingness to share the team load.
