The Central Land Council (CLC) is a corporate Commonwealth entity established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. The CLC represents traditional landowners, native title holders and other Aboriginal people across the southern half of the Northern Territory—an area of almost 780,000 square kilometres.
The CLC provides its constituents with advice, advocacy and practical assistance to support their aspirations, manage their land and realise and protect their rights.
We are currently seeking a suitable qualified candidate for the following position:
Based in Alice Springs, this position is apart of the team of lawyers forming the CLC Legal Section; including six (6) dedicated regional lawyers together with five (5) other specialist legal positions. The legal section provides representation and advice on a wide range of commercial and property matters to traditional owners and to the Council on issues arising under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976) and the Native Title Act 1993.
The successful candidate is required to coordinate any legal work on Native Title claims, supervision of the CLC Native Title Legal Analyst, mentoring CLC lawyers in relation to native title claims and working closing with the Manager, Native Title and Senior Native Title Research Coordinator. The successful candidate must be eligible to be admitted to act as a legal practitioner in the NT and have significant experience in the representation of claimants in applications under the Native Title Act 1993.

Total effective package includes: base salary, district allowance, superannuation, leave loading, relocation assistance, annual airfare allowance and salary packaging options. Annual progression within the salary scale is subject to satisfactory performance. Progression is in accordance with annual increments set out in an enterprise agreement.
