Central Coast Community Legal Centre

The Central Coast Community legal Centre Social Work Referral Service will expand the existing Central Coast Duty Lawyer Services already operating at Gosford and Wyong Local Courts on the NSW Central Coast.

Currently the Duty Lawyer time is restricted to advice and information at the Court .

Providing free Duty Lawyer Services to unrepresented defendants in AVO matters .The existing service is to ensure that the defendant is provided with appropriate legal information and advice and has a clear understanding of the implications of the AVO and any conditions.

The service ultimately seeking to ensure a workable and achievable AVO is in place. The integration of a social worker would seek to strengthen, where possible, their understanding of and motivation to comply with protection orders or bail conditions beyond the court environment.

The outcomes/impact to be achieved is the engagement by defendants with a system of established support services including mens behaviour change programs located in the region.

The social worker coordinating any further referrals for Family Law and Care and Protection advice from the Centre itself or other legal service providers.
