The Role

We are looking for an experienced Head of Communications and Engagement to join our Philanthropy and Communications team for parental leave contract to commence in October 2022 until June 2023.

The Head of Communications and Engagement will implement the Institute’s communications and engagement strategy to produce and promote content that raises awareness of the Institute, promoting an optimal brand and elevating its profile.

The Head of Communications and Engagement will have management responsibility for a team of three, with strategic and operational oversight of donor events and stewardship, media and communications and a digital strategy that leverages social media and web-based channels to engage with different audiences.

The successful candidate

The successful candidate will have experience in marketing and communications at a senior level, with expertise in marketing, strategic communications, stakeholder relations, market research and analytics.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated experience and success in implementing communications, marketing and engagement strategies and plans.
• Proven success managing complex marketing and communications projects with numerous internal and external stakeholders.
• Understanding and broad experience of digital technologies and their application.
• Experience managing issues and crisis communications situations.
• Demonstrated experience in editing, content delivery, production of media and the successful development of communications solutions to grow engagement through effective marketing techniques.
• Experience working directly with members of Executive, Board and other high-level stakeholders.
• Ability to effectively manage a communications and marketing budget.
• Team management experience.

Desirable Skills

• Demonstrated experience in relationship management and donor engagement.
• Experience gained in a university, government, not for profit or medical research environment.
• Track record in effectively translating complex science for a lay audience.
• Experience working in an Apple and Google environment.
