Centacare North Queensland is the social services ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Townsville, we are a not-for-profit organisation that provides counselling, family support, mediation, family dispute resolution, disability services, education and courses, crisis housing and homelessness support, youth services, community engagement and NDIS services. Centacare services the North Queensland community from offices in Townsville, Ayr, Bowen, Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Longreach, and Normanton.

About the Role

This position contributes to the Communities for Children Mt Isa Region Action Plan. The Communities for Children Program works towards supporting children (0-12yrs) and their families through the provision of place-based, targeted and coordinated programs, and supporting the development of a holistic approach to service delivery. The program, aims to bring together families, stakeholders, service providers and funding bodies to develop a planned approach to service delivery with local communities that experience high levels of disadvantage.

Joining a values-driven, supportive, and inclusive team, you will:

  • Work collaboratively with the C4C Community Partners and C4C Committee Members.
  • Work with the early years sector and support services and review current approaches to engaging and working with vulnerable families
  • Arrange and facilitate conversations with the early years sector around family engagement
  • In collaboration with the C4C Coordinator, contribute to the C4C Committee meetings – providing administration support
  • Prepare and submit relevant reports and service data in line with reporting requirements
  • Develop and maintain effective internal and external working relationships
  • Contribute to the strategic, action planning and implementation process
  • Plan and coordinate events/sector community education activities

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A formal qualification relevant to the position AND / OR three years of relevant experience in a community development role
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in community development, including experience in working with families and children
  • An understanding and experience in early intervention prevention methods as it applies to children 0-12 and their families
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current early childhood development theory and practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current cross-cultural perspectives and culturally safe practices
  •  Demonstrated understanding and experience in capacity building approaches that utilise collaboration, reflective and strength-based practice
  • Current drivers’ licence
  • A current valid Blue Card
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Yellow Card
