This exciting program is designed to offer graduates access to a comprehensive youth mental health training and development program. The program includes discipline-specific clinical supervision as well as 40 days of funded professional training.

About the Position

Centacare, as the lead agency of a consortium-based model, is responsible for operating headspace Port Adelaide. headspace is Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation. The headspace mission is to improve the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young Australians aged 12-25. headspace Port Adelaide provides free services to young people in the areas of mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drugs, work and study.

The key duties in this role will include:

  • Work within their scope of practice under the direction of the headspace Centre Service Manager and/or Clinical Lead and Clinical Educator to provide comprehensive youth friendly mental health services.
  • Provide a comprehensive intake service to young people, community members and professionals seeking services.
  • Conduct initial assessments with young people and their families/carers, using the agreed headspace psycho-social assessment tool, to determine client suitability for ongoing headspace services.
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions, including group interventions, with young people and their families/carers.
  • Participate in regular clinical case review meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure appropriate, consistent, and coordinated service pathways and service delivery response for young people and their families/carers.

About You

To be considered for this position you will need to meet the following criteria:

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience working with young people aged 12-25 and their family and friends (highly desirable).
  • Some working knowledge of how to support people experiencing mental health and other wellbeing concerns.
  • An understanding of the youth mental health sector in Adelaide.

You must have graduated within the past 12 months and hold one of the following:

  • A Psychologist who holds general registration or who has an area of practice endorsement
  • OR a Social Worker who has membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and is certified by AASW as meeting the standards for mental health set out in the document published by AASW titled ‘Practice Standards for Mental Health Social Workers’, as in force on 8 November 2008
  • OR an Occupational Therapist with Better Access to Mental Health (BAMH) endorsement
  • OR a Registered Nurse with additional qualifications in mental health
  • OR be eligible for the above and commit to achieving the appropriate accreditation/registration/endorsement within the first 12 weeks of employment
  • Valid Department for Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check. (previously known as ‘Child-Related Employment Screening Clearance’)
  • Valid Driver's Licence
