  • Remuneration: $31-$34 /hr, (depending on skills and experience), plus superannuation
  • Location: Ourimbah based, servicing NSW area
  • Supervision: The position is under the direction of the Community Environment Network’s CEO.

Description

The Community Environment Network (CEN) is an alliance of individuals, community and environmental organisations that work for ecologically sustainable development and against threats to it. CEN is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation and is not aligned with any political party.

CEN’s activities include advocacy, education, community engagement, delivering on-ground works, supporting member organisations, and monitoring the environment. (See Aims and Objectives below).

We currently require a Coastal Wetlands Project Officer to assist in delivering Coastal Wetlands monitoring and protection strategy in NSW.

The position will work with our CEO and relevant staff of CEN to educate and engage the community of the importance of coastal wetlands.

The key to the success of the program is the cooperation between community groups, interested individuals, local government, catchment management authorities, industry, government and non-government organisations to ensure that everyone plays a role in keeping our wetlands clean and healthy.

Role of Position:

The position will work under the direction of the CEO to coordinate a coastal wetlands program across the state.

The objectives of position will be to:

  • Promote the protection of Coastal Wetlands.
  • Provide support and work closely with NSW Waterwatch groups to monitor and educate the public on Coastal Wetlands
  • Educate teachers, students and community members in wetlands, water quality issues.
  • Provide and support data management.
  • Organising and work with relevant CEN staff and CEO on campaigns and advocacy to protect Coastal Wetlands across the NSW region.
  • Develop and promotion of educational material, public displays and newsletters.
  • Create a yearly report to be presented to Nature Council, meeting the KPI’s of educating and advocacy work to protect Coastal Wetlands across NSW

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  1. Commitment to the aims and objectives of CEN (see below)
  2. Tertiary qualifications in Science, Education, Natural Resource Management, or related field (final year students will be considered).
  3. Knowledge of wetlands and water quality monitoring techniques, parameters, and related issues.
  4. Proven ability to work with community and / or school groups.
  5. High level of self-motivation, organisational skills, and capacity to work unsupervised.
  6. Excellent communication skills including computer communication and presentation skills.
  7. Ability to travel around NSW and the flexibility to work some weekends / evenings.
  8. Current drivers licence; own car with comprehensive third party insurance.
