The Role of Senior Advisor - Impact Evaluation

The Senior Advisor - Impact Evaluation undertakes a range of tasks at CEI, including:

  • Leading and managing a portfolio of high-profile research and evaluation projects across a range of key CEI strategic activities
    • impact evaluation, with a focus on hybrid implementation-effectiveness designs and multicomponent research that provides a deep understanding of complex social policy issues with an equity lens
    • evidence synthesis (e.g., systematic, rapid and scoping reviews, evidence gap maps)
    • partnering with implementation practice colleagues on conceptual and practical approaches to measuring implementation outcomes
    • using measurement to inform continuous quality improvement processes in service delivery or policy implementation, and
    • advancing implementation science and evaluation methods through dissemination of new knowledge (e.g., conference presentations, journal articles, web articles).
  • Developing less experienced staff in their evaluation and research capabilities
  • Responding to evaluation tenders and contributing to CEI's business development
  • Contributing to thought leadership and knowledge exchange in evaluation methods and implementation science and related topic areas, and
  • Strategically grow CEI's business and ensure continuous improvement in our work.

As a global organisation there will be at times that work and meetings will be conducted outside regular business hours.

What makes a great Senior Advisor - Impact Evaluation

Our ideal candidate is passionate about and committed to using their skills to improve policy and service delivery that affects people's lives. With a post-graduate research degree in psychology, health, social science, economics or related discipline you bring extensive, senior-level experience in the use of research and evaluation to inform policy and program development, in government and non-government settings. You are skilled in leading multicomponent research, bringing a high level of integrity and professionalism to your work and relationships and excel at translating findings into feasible solutions for government, the service sector and philanthropic decision-makers.

We understand you may need to learn and develop skills related to implementation science methods and we will support you to do this through mentoring and training.

The following six skills are core to the Senior Advisor - Impact evaluation role:

  • Implementation science - you can clearly and simply explain implementation science concepts and how they relate to policy and program impact
  • Impact evaluation - you have a strong understanding of causal methods and hybrid designs that mesh effectiveness and implementation and can undertake sophisticated quantitative analysis
  • Knowledge translation - you are an effective and clear communicator who can run workshops and write reports that present complex evaluation concepts and findings in simple terms
  • Project management - you can effectively manage projects, teams, and clients to scope work appropriately, meet deadlines and produce high-quality evaluations
  • Managing and developing yourself - you are self-reflective and resilient and accept responsibility for your own development, projects, work tasks, decisions and outcomes
  • Managing and developing others - you care about the success, development and wellbeing of others and can effectively support staff to perform at their best.
