The Canberra Environment Centre is seeking a workshops producer and office manager to join our small organisation.
We’re looking for someone who loves to maintain and nurture connections with workshop presenters and key knowledge-holders while expanding networks to include an even more diverse and exciting range of people.
Producing the Canberra Environment Centre’s sustainability program will require a high level of creativity and innovative thinking as you build and evolve the workshops on offer to meet the varied needs of the community. This role requires you to be organised and plan ahead, as well as maintaining energy and enthusiasm for events and event management.
Salary: $29.12 per hour, $56,784 pro rata
Hours: 22 hours per week. Must be available for occasional weekend and evening events
Term: 1 year contract, 3 months’ probation.
The sustainability workshops program aims to foster community resilience through sharing knowledge and growing connections. The Workshops Producer and Office Manager will program and produce The Canberra Environment Centre’s ongoing Sustainability Workshops program. They will maintain and build strong networks with workshop presenters and sustainability knowledge holders in the Canberra community. The workshop producer will work with an Outreach Officer to host the majority of the workshops.
Knowledge or interest in topics relating to practical sustainability is a strong advantage. Our program includes topics such as backyard food growing, chicken keeping and beekeeping, sustainable fashion, introduction to solar, urban foraging, recycling education and sourdough bread baking. We draw upon knowledgeable and skilled members of our community to present our workshops; the workshops producer must have a high level of familiarity with the topics in order to successfully curate the sustainability workshops program.
Office Manager duties include ensuring the CEC is tidy and functional for events, managing bookings with our community stakeholders to use the space, and answering phone and email enquiries.

We are an environmental education centre that empowers people to create a sustainable future for the Canberra community. Our premises, located in Acton, includes a community workshop and meeting space, an environmental library, a community garden and a community bike workshop.
The Canberra Environment Centre provides quality workshops on all aspects of sustainable living. We schedule at least six workshops per month delivered to the public, both online and in person. We also provide workshop directly to community groups, business and government.
