About CDAH

Community Disability Alliance Hunter (CDAH) is a peer support organisation, run for and by people with disability and their families.

CDAH is the first Disabled Peoples Organisation established to prepare people for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It is forging new directions and is guided by its vision of an inclusive and just society where people with disability have genuine voice, choice and control. CDAH actively promotes and facilitates peer support to assist people to get the support they need to live the life they choose.

CDAH works toward its vision by providing information, advice, mentoring, peer support, training and development to increase the knowledge, skills and capacity of people with disability and their families, by providing a collective voice and by building the capacity of the community to welcome all people. CDAH believes that people who have shared experiences can offer invaluable support to others who are about to embark on a similar journey.

CDAH’s work is driven by its Board which is made up of people with disability and family members.

The objectives of the Community Disability Alliance Hunter (CDAH) are to:

  • Increase the knowledge, skills and capacity of people with disability and their families through information, advice, mentoring, peer support, training and development;
  • Be a collective voice of and for people with disability and families;
  • Assist people with disability to make the most of their packages of support;
  • Build the capacity of the community to welcome all people;
  • Share our collective lived experience to empower people with disability to have voice, choice and control;
  • Uphold and be guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

About the role

The Project Coordinator is a senior project management role.

The key responsibilities will be working to coordinate all identified funded projects at CDAH while being central to supporting our peer groups to grow & develop.

Responsibilities

  • Work within the objectives of the Community Disability Alliance Hunter (CDAH)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with peer group coordinators and members
  • Support CDAH’s peer group meetings with logistics, co-facilitation & ethical strategic planning
  • Work collaboratively with CDAH’s peer networks to develop effective information, education and communication strategies that promote awareness of ‘peer power’
  • Coordinate liaison across all CDAH projects and with partner organisations
  • Coordinate and oversee the production of all relevant project reports within identified time frames
  • Develop, implement and have oversight into CDAH’s funded projects, including reporting to EO and provide regular updates to CDAH board
  • Coordination, supervision and support of project staff and prioritise tasks as required
  • Engage with in-house professional mentoring for job skills development
  • Participate in, and contribute to, staff meetings and administration as required
  • Other duties as required

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated relevant qualifications and/or industry experience in support of this role
  • Demonstrated understanding of the power of peer mentoring and the values and principles of peer support.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills in support of this role
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in managing multiple associated projects, including reports, budgets and managing time across multiple projects and deadlines
  • Demonstrated strengths in developing relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • High-level skills in working collaboratively, effectively and respectfully with diverse groups of people with diverse modes of communication
  • Commitment to the human rights of people with disability and the principles of participation and inclusion
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of people with disability having voice, choice and control, with the ability to design and deliver projects that work towards these goals
