Context

The goal of the Skin Cancer Prevention Unit is to reduce the burden of skin cancer amongst the general population by encouraging good sun protection practices that reduce overexposure to UV radiation. Priority target groups are children, adolescents and men over 40 years old. They focus on changing the behaviour of populations at risk, influencing key settings to adopt sun safe policies and practices, and by addressing policy issues that impact on skin cancer and sun safety.

Primarily based at the Woolloomooloo office, or with an opportunity to be in one our regional offices that still allows flexibility to commute to the Woolloomooloo office when required, the key purpose of this role is to plan, implement and evaluate key sun protection programs to reduce skin cancer in the NSW community.

Role

This position will focus on increasing the impact of the SunSmart program in the early childhood and primary school sectors, drawing on recent evaluation findings.

The position plays an important role in understanding the evidence, developing and disseminating strategic communications and programs of work to deepen engagement with key internal and external audiences and stakeholders.

The role will also support the strategic development and implementation of new programs of work, such as secondary schools and outdoor workplace guidance, and will require reviewing the available literature and evidence gaps, to inform project planning and management.

Detail

Key responsibilities will primarily be:

  • Review and synthesise existing literature and evidence to inform new project planning.
  • Support the scoping of new evidence-based strategic approaches to skin cancer prevention program and policy initiatives.
  • Plan, implement and support the evaluation of skin cancer prevention programs, including ethics applications as required.
  • Support the ongoing day-to-day management of skin cancer prevention program delivery, including the review and development of program content, contract management, and engagement with stakeholders and community organisations.
  • Support program and evaluation planning including ongoing monitoring and reporting, quality assurance and improvement to ensure program effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Support the implementation of information technology projects designed to increase the efficiency of skin cancer prevention programs.
  • Use various communication channels to regularly update, coordinate and increase engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the development, production and dissemination of communications materials including resources, electronic and hard copy newsletters, web-copy and other material as required.
  • Regularly update content on Cancer Council NSW’s website and intranet.

Who are you?

You are an early career health promotion professional looking to put into practice skills you have learnt while also still looking for learning and development opportunities.

This role needs someone with a collaborative approach and a natural influencing ability. You will support the team by taking the initiative on projects and an ability to ‘manage up’ by being across all SunSmart projects at any given time and being able to and communicate high level summaries wherever needed!

Comfortable moving between big picture and detail, you will bring your tertiary qualifications in health promotion, education and/or a related area along with:

  • Project management experience
  • High level of computer competence, database experience and ability to analyse data.
  • Conceptual thinking and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Ability to think innovatively and demonstrate initiative
  • Demonstrated skills working as part of a team as well as working independently
  • Driver’s licence and flexibility to travel within NSW
