cChange, a regional nonprofit organisation, seeks a Campaign Manager for four Pacific Island country campaigns that aim to scale-up community-based resource management efforts in the region.

The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.

cChange develops change communications initiatives for organisations and multi-partner initiatives, including designing foundational campaigns to catalyse movements in support of urgent social change. cChange communications initiatives prioritise programs that empower grassroots leaders with context-appropriate communications training and tools that help them create local dialogues and shift social norms in their communities. cChange provides strategic communications capacity building for NGOs and government agencies, with a focus on behavioural change.

cChange has internal capacity to support a suite of creative communications tools, including graphic design, illustration, animation and video production.

Position Summary

The Campaigns Manager will play a lead role in developing and overseeing the implementation of four Pacific Island campaigns that aim to upscale efforts to empower communities to sustainably manage their coastal resources. The Campaigns Manager will provide hands-on management of each campaign and each country coordinator, including ongoing mentoring, direct support for day-to-day implementation of campaign work plans, monitoring and evaluation and annual assessments.

Once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and it is safe to travel, the position will require periodic country visits to meet with the country coordinators, partners, and support activities, workshops and campaign assessments. The target countries are Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The campaigns, which will run through 2022, are in partnership with the Locally-Managed Marine Area Network and its objective of scaling-up community-based management efforts based on decades of learning.

In addition to providing high-level management of campaigns, the campaign manager position will support developing campaign activities, which rely heavily on media outreach with a focus on talk back radio. In addition, the Campaigns Manager must support story creation for news stories, long-form features and scripting for video content. In addition, the Campaigns Manager will support train the trainer workshops to empower grassroots leaders and networks to conduct effective outreach. Finally, the Campaign Manager must facilitate a multi-partner approach to periodically surveying coastal communities on perspectives, challenges, aspirations and priorities on coastal fisheries management.

Preferably, the Campaigns Manager will have a strong background in strategic communications, ideally with experience in media, marketing and/or behavioural change campaigns/research.

The Campaigns Manager must have strong writing skills, ideally with creative or journalism background. The position will need to support the in-house team to create campaign outreach materials, including prints materials such as brochures, reports, media briefs, press releases, newspaper features, as well as video products, including documentaries, vignettes, commercials and animations.

This position will be required to write project reports and engage key partners around our work.

cChange operates in ever-changing business and political environments and is steadily expanding. The position will also require constant flexibility, including taking on new tasks and projects on short notice. Experience working in multicultural setting and the developing world is ideal.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage four country campaigns, including ensuring implementation of work plans, mentoring staff and managing budgets
  • Support the creation of diverse media, including radio programming, news stories, long-form features, video and social media, and the creation of a suite of visual outreach tools with our in-house creative team
  • Effectively engage regional and national media to ensure strong engagement on challenges facing Pacific Island communities in sustainably managing their coastal resources
  • Facilitate multi-partner approach to surveying coastal communities on coastal fisheries management
  • Maintain strong partners relationships and buy-in for the cChange communications approach to shifting social norms and grassroots empowerment, including among all relevant government ministries
  • Conduct communications training workshops and other events that build communications capacity at key partner organisations and key government agencies
  • Provide one-on-one communications training for partners and provide ongoing guidance for outreach work
  • Present organisational goals and objectives to key partners, donors and the media
  • Write grant proposals and reports

Preferred Qualifications And Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in communications/marketing, or equivalent in professional experience
  • 4 or more years work experience in communications, conservation and/or journalism
  • Work experience in Asia Pacific region, with demonstrated managerial experience
  • Work experience in project management, including multi-partner initiatives
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and experience in translating technical subject matter into compelling communications
  • Ability to present our work and goals to a wide range of audiences, including partners, donors and the media
  • Ability to manage budgets
  • Ability to handle several projects at one time and manage an often unpredictable business environment
  • Self-motivated, with the ability and willingness to work across time zones, as well as work independently
  • A well-organised, detail-oriented and efficient team player with a positive attitude and superior inter-personal skills, Strong understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Willingness to travel
