The Central Coast Domestic Court Advocacy Service are seeking a new team member. This is a full-time position 35 hours per week Monday- Friday under SCHCADS awards with potential appointment until 2024 dependent on completing a successful probationary period. Above award conditions apply. (Salary Packaging)

About the position

The Central Coast Domestic Violence Advocacy Service, Local Coordination Point (LCP) receives electronic referrals from NSW Police each time Police attend an incident of Domestic Violence on the Central Coast. When the LCP receives referrals from Police, the DFV Specialist Workers and Safety Action Meeting Coordinator contacts each victim, conducts a risk assessment with her and offers warm referrals to a range of support services including counselling, safety upgrades, housing and refuge accommodation, legal advice, emergency support and more. The LCP also coordinates and monitors Safety Action Meetings (SAM) in which Government and Non-Government members develop safety action plans for victims at serious threat of death, disability or injury as a result of domestic and family violence.

The (DFV) Specialist Worker will assist the Safety Action Meeting Coordinator in the overall administration and coordination of the Local Coordination Point responsibilities. The DFV Specialist worker in partnership with all other DFV Specialist workers will provide clients with an effective, streamlined service.

We are seeking a person with excellent communication, advocacy, and networking skills as well as knowledge and expertise in the area of domestic violence to fill these roles to ensure a timely response to victims at serious threat of injury or death.

Essential Criteria

1. Tertiary qualifications in social work, community services or criminal justice and/or equivalent experience in the domestic violence sector, social welfare, and/or the legal system.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, complexities, and legal and social welfare consequences of domestic violence.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic and family violence in NSW, including ADVO applications, criminal prosecutions and related legal matters such as family law, care and protection, migration and victims’ compensation issues.
4. Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate trauma-informed support.
5. Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with government and non-government service providers
6. Ability to deliver services in accordance with the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS) Service Agreement, WDVCAP Principles, Policies and Standards and other operational documents.
7. Commitment to working with the team of workers to ensure the highest quality service is delivered to clients.
8. Ability to work effectively with WDVCAS partners and stakeholders.
9. Excellent organisational, administrative and management skills.
10. Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution.
