  • 15.2 - 19 hours per week, Fixed Term 9-month contract May 21 – January 22
  • $30 - $40 per hour as relevant to experience and Social and Community Services Pay Award

Cultivating Community is a not-for-profit organisation and accredited Social Enterprise supporting diverse and low-income families to create fair, secure and resilient food systems.

Our vision is for joyful, connected communities who care for each other and our earth.

Our work involves supporting 21 Public Housing Community Gardens, a variety of School Food Gardens and Community Cooking projects including our Fitzroy Community Food Centre. We are collaborators in the Moving Feast network established during the Covid 19 Pandemic and have clear aspirations to develop more social enterprise and employment pathway-based projects within our portfolio over the next few years including our High-Rise Bakery project and Hortus our Food based garden design, build and maintenance service. Let’s Keep Cooking is a new umbrella-based title for a variety of cooking-based projects in our portfolio.

Context for the role

This is a new role designing, managing, and delivering workshops to a variety of customers online and face to face in the subjects of food growing, cooking and sustainability. Bringing passion for spreading the good food agenda and expertise in developing others, the role brings alive the importance of growing food, managing food systems, cooking food and power of food for social connection to the whole community. As part of the Food Systems team, support workers and central operations team this role will work with a variety of clients delivering meaningful, coordinated messages and expert workshops.

The individual will require robust project management skills to collectively deliver and develop a range of products and services.

Skills and Experience required for this post

  • Experience of training or teaching adults and children and the ability to relate to each audience
  • Excellent teaching and presentation skills and strong understanding of learning theories and how to apply them
  • The ability to garden, cook, compost and manage food waste and teach others to cook and learn about good food and food systems
  • Experience of culturally appropriate plants, foods, ingredients, recipes, and meals
  • Degree level qualification relevant to the role or equivalent experiences
  • Superior organisational and communication skills

Role requirements

  • Willing and able to travel extensively across Melbourne
  • Working With Children’s CheckNational Police Check
  • Able to manage packing and moving heavy loads and undertake physical work including carrying and lifting
