  • Location: Children by Choice, 237 Lutwyche Road, Windsor with additional state wide travel requirements.

Organisational environment

The organisation is led by a voluntary Management Committee of professionals, elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Management Committee is responsible for the governance of the organisation and also provides expert opinion on operational matters. The position is one of a team of paid professionals and unpaid volunteers who are dedicated to achieving the objectives of Children by Choice. The team is led by a Manager. The team work collaboratively to deliver quality, evidence based information and services. The organisation’s strategic plan and annual reports are available at childrenbychoice.org.au.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role is responsible for the coordination of the organisation’s education and community engagement activities across Queensland. This includes coordination of the bi-annual Unplanned Pregnancy and Abortion Conference and supervision of a small team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Children by Choice’s sexuality and relationships education and professional development and training activities.
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate Children by Choice’s sexuality and relationships education and professional development and training.
  • Develop and implement the organisation’s education plan and educational project plans in collaboration with the education team and in line with strategic objectives.
  • Provide support and supervision to education team staff members, students and volunteers.
  • Maintain and build collaborative relationships and effective partnerships with key sector stakeholders, institutions, experts, community groups and leaders to advance strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate Children by Choice’s Unplanned Pregnancy and Abortion Conference.
  • With the Manager, contribute to submissions on unplanned pregnancy, pregnancy options, reproductive health and issues contributing to women’s reproductive health.
  • With the Manager, participate in policy development, consultations or feedback where possible, in conjunction with other women’s groups and networks where applicable.

General

  • Collaborate effectively with other team members, including shared projects, staff meetings and day to day activities. Assist and support colleagues when they may be experiencing a high demand period.
  • Maintain and apply current knowledge of the evidence and best practice and work with the Manager to identify and participate in skills development appropriate to the role and annual work plan.
  • Plan time effectively to manage competing demands, including work/ life balance.
  • Assist the Manager to report effectively to management and stakeholders.
  • Observe the policies and procedures of the organisation.
  • Contribute to Children by Choice’s collective efforts, including strategic planning, position papers and public events.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

  • Commitment to the vision, mission, values and objectives of Children by Choice Association Incorporated, including feminist practice and a woman’s right to choose abortion.
  • Proven ability in program management and evaluation involving internal and external stakeholders including experience in managing timelines and budgets.
  • High level experience coordinating, developing, delivering and evaluating professional and community education programs and events.
  • Highly developed communication skills, including written, verbal, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Experience managing and supporting staff, volunteers and/or students, preferably in a non-government setting.
  • Tertiary qualification in social work, education, community development, public health, or similar, or minimum three years of relevant experience.

Desirable

  • Knowledge in sexual and reproductive health issues, especially abortion
  • Successful grant application and funding proposal experience
  • Experience working with young people
