We are currently seeking an experienced outreach worker to work within an assertive outreach case coordination framework to provide direct support to our Justice Housing Program Bail Houses occupants.

The Role

As part of the Building Communities Not Prisons program, the Justice Housing Program (JHP) has been funded by the ACT Government. This initiative supports efforts to reduce reoffending and overcrowding at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC). The JHP provides an accommodation option for those who otherwise would be incarcerated in the AMC due to a lack of suitable community-based accommodation.

The CatholicCare Justice Housing Program Occupant Support Case Manager will:

  • Work with an active caseload of Justice Housing Program occupants and provide practical supports such as transport to attend appointments, referrals and advocacy to vital services, assistance to complete tasks such as HousingACT applications for priority allocation, Centrelink and Medicare requirements, obtaining identification documents, etc. and provide brokerage for essential items as required
  • Coordinate and facilitate weekly onsite house meetings, room searches as required, and oversee shared living roles and responsibilities
  • Assist occupants to identify specific needs and goals related to their individual situations and develop case plans outlining strategies to assist them to achieve said goals
  • Support occupants sustain their tenancy, comply with bail conditions and enhance life skills
  • Mentor occupants on opportunities to improve their situations and contribute positively to society
  • Liaise with internal and external teams involved in supporting the occupants to ensure a coordinated care focus

Selection Criteria:

The ideal person we are looking for has:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in the welfare sector working with vulnerable and at-risk clients
  • Demonstrated understanding of the client group and their needs
  • Ability to liaise and advocate with various stakeholders
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated capacity for sound work organisation and effective use of time
  • High standard of written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated awareness of the relevant principles and practices such as EEO, OH&S, Confidentiality and Duty of Care
  • Hold a current drivers' license, a current Working with Vulnerable People card and be willing to undergo a police check
