Family Counsellor, Bushfire Recovery - East Gippsland

We are currently seeking a full time Family Counsellor to join our Bushfire Response team to support, address and provide paths of assistance to people affected by grief and trauma within the bushfire affected regions in East Gippsland. The Bushfire Response program will provide an outreach mobile service to the community, with a particular focus on remote townships using a CatholicCare vehicle where Community Development activities, material assistance and referrals can be made from. This role will travel to Churches, Community groups, Sporting Groups, Schools, Parishes, Festivals and Markets to support the community on a rostered and regular basis.

Reporting to the Manager, Gippsland Region the position will be involved in but not limited to:

  • Providing quality counselling to individuals, couples and families
  • Applying a variety of theoretical frameworks and trauma and/or crisis intervention strategies
  • Attending relevant internal and external meetings, including case conferences and staff meetings
  • Participating in clinical supervision and activities to promote professional development
  • Travelling regularly between locations as required
  • Providing group facilitation in community venues
  • Displaying creative and innovative ways of reaching out to people

The successful applicants will possess:

  • Degree in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work
  • Post graduate qualification in Counselling or Human Services highly regarded
  • Eligibility for membership of A.P.S. or A.A.S.W.
  • Proven track record in grief, loss or trauma counselling and relationship counselling
  • Strong understanding of a variety of theoretical frameworks and trauma and/or crisis intervention strategies
  • Demonstrated program development and group facilitation skills
  • Experience in working with rural communities and in outreach work desirable
