Carers NSW is the peak body in NSW for carers of all ages and circumstances. We are a not-for-profit organisation connecting and empowering carers and improving their quality of life through support, referrals, capacity building and training.

As the Carer Gateway Service Provider (CGSP) in Region 4 of NSW (Central Coast, Hunter New England and North Coast) we are excited to be growing our team and are looking for part-time Young Carer Support Workers based in Coffs Harbour, Newcastle and New England Region.

About the role

These positions are responsible for working proactively with young carers and services to support young carers to access Carer Gateway Services. These roles, working 3 days a week, will be required to connect with services such as schools, youth agencies, training organisations and other service providers to create awareness of young carers and the services of the Carer Gateway.

ESSENTIAL TO YOUR SUCCESS WILL BE YOUR:

Reporting to the Team Leader, Gateway Outreach you will be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Tertiary qualification in Social Work or other relevant discipline
• Demonstrated experience in working with young people
• Knowledge of the community care, health and disability service systems and other programs relevant to young carers
• Demonstrated experience in telephone support work
• Understanding of intake, assessment and referral processes provided as part of a telephone information, support and planning process
• Strong understanding of Mandatory Reporting and Privacy Requirements, and
• Understanding of and commitment to carer issues and needs

In addition, knowledge of the Central Coast, Hunter New England and North Coast (Region 4) will be highly regarded.
