The Consumer Law Centre (CLC) is a program of Care providing legal advice, casework and advocacy primarily in the areas of credit, debt and Australian consumer law.

We are seeking an organised and enthusiastic paralegal to join our team and support the valuable work of the CLC.

The Paralegal role provides excellent opportunities for a key ‘front line’ position as the first point of contact for clients seeking advice and assistance from our service. It provides exposure across various areas of law including consumer credit (mortgages, credit cards and personal loans), debt recovery, banking, contract, general fair trading and consumer protection, and the ACT's new Motor Accident Injuries Scheme. The position includes responding to initial client enquiries for assistance and doing intake, providing administrative support to the legal practice, undertaking legal research and supporting community legal education activities. In particular the role will be assisting in the delivery of the new Motor Accident Injuries Defined Benefit Information Service. Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills are essential. Experience working in a legal setting and/or undertaking legal research is also preferred.

Position Description

The Paralegal works under the general direction of the Consumer Law Centre Principal Solicitor. They are expected to have a high level of written and verbal communication and excellent time management skills. Experience working in a legal setting and/or undertaking legal research is also preferred.

The Paralegal is one of a small legal team within the CLC. Along with other paralegals in the CLC the position is responsible for legal administration and support for the CLC.

This is an initial 12-month contract. As with all of Care’s employment contracts any continuation after that is reliant on funding being available.
