Your role

The NSW Cardiovascular Research Network (CVRN) was formed to encourage collaboration and commitment to cardiovascular research in NSW. The CVRN provides funding grants and capacity building activities for cardiovascular researchers. As well, CVRN plays an advocacy role in identifying priorities for cardiovascular research in NSW.

This role manages the day to day operations and activities of the CVRN and provides secretariat support for the NSW CVRN Management Committee who govern the Network. This role manages stakeholder relationships with the members of the CVRN, Rising Stars, CVRN Management Committee, and individual researchers.

This role works closely with the NSW/ACT General Manager to implement and deliver the strategic goals of the CVRN into tangible activities and events for the CVRN. The role also supervises one staff member.

Key areas of accountabilities for the CVRN Manager include:

  1. Project Management
    1. Support CVRN Management Committee on all CVRN matters, by providing advice, information and reporting.
    2. Foster greater collaboration among NSW research institutions and stakeholders including Government, and academic institutions to further the objectives of the CVRN.
    3. Develop, promote and manage research grants, available for CVRN members to apply for through open and transparent processes.
    4. Plan and implement capacity building workshops and events for early to mid-career researchers.
    5. Manage and plan the annual Showcase and Awards Ceremony.
  2. Secretariat functions
    1. Provide secretariat support to the CVRN Management Committee, ensuring at least 2-3 meetings annually.
    2. Oversee and manage any financial requirements for the CVRN, including payment of awards, invoices and management of budget/finance records.
  3. Stakeholder relationships
    1. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the members of the committee(s) and Network
    2. Represent the CVRN at all external meetings and forums.

To be successful for this position you will:

Essential skills and experience:

  • Hold appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or relevant work experience in medical research or health related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the health and medical research environment in NSW and Australia, including research funding schemes.
  • Previous work experience as an Executive Officer and/or in project management.
  • Previous work experience in developing research strategies and new initiatives.
  • Clear thinker and ability to analyse decisions and scientific information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for audiences ranging from government, research, donors, and general staff within the organisation.
  • Proven collaboration and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels with a strong service approach.
  • Previous experience supervising other staff
