BACKGROUND

Climate action is attracting unprecedented attention in Australia, regionally and internationally, and carbon markets are evolving rapidly in pursuit of net-zero and negative emission economies. As the only independent industry association guiding the business transition to net zero, The Carbon Market Institute (CMI) plays a central role in shaping a prosperous, climate-resilient net zero economy. Its 120+ members include primary producers, carbon project developers, Indigenous corporations, legal and advisory services, insurers, banks and emission intensive industries developing decarbonisation and offset strategies.

Role overview

This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the public discourse on climate change and work with some leading minds in the industry, with the successful candidate having a passion for storytelling, strong organisational skills and the ability to show initiative and work comfortably under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

The Digital Communications Manager is responsible for managing CMI’s website, including its Carbon Marketplace (to be relaunched in 2022) and Members Portal, and CMI’s social media channels, as well as supporting the promotion of CMI events. It will involve digital strategy recommendations, developing, editing and posting content, regular reporting and engaging with CMI’s membership base.

The position reports to the Senior Manager, Comms & Media, and will work closely with CMI team members, especially the CMI Events Coordinator.

Selection Criteria: Core responsibilities & experience

The core responsibilities include:

  1. Assist in the implementation, monitoring and review of a Communications Strategy that helps deliver CMI’s vision, mission and objectives
  2. Management of CMI’s website, Marketplace, Members Portal, and other digital platforms
  3. Draft and optimise written content for the website and social networking channels including LinkedIn and Twitter, and develop regular eDM updates for members in line with monthly activity
  4. Assist in the writing, editing and assisting in the production of other comms materials including media releases, briefings, presentations etc
  5. Develop basic design assets (e.g. social tiles, fact sheets), and edit video content (desirable but not mandatory)
  6. Promotion of key CMI events and relationship management with members and sponsors
  7. Regular reporting on digital channel performance
  8. Participating in and promoting a learning, team-based culture

Desirable experience:

  1. Minimum 3 years’ experience and demonstrable excellence working in a copywriter, or website content and/or social media role
  2. Experience creating compelling content and copy for targeted audiences across a range of digital channels
  3. Some experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, MailChimp, LinkedIn, Twitter, Salesforce, Wordpress and Google Analytics
  4. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  5. Ability to work autonomously within a team based working environment
  6. Previous experience and/or a demonstrable interest, in climate change, emissions reductions, carbon farming and/or sustainable/regenerative business (including agriculture) practices

Remuneration & benefits

  • 3-4 days per week (negotiable)
  • Annual salary of $80-100k pro rata inc. super (negotiable, dependent on experience)
  • Candidates from Sydney or Melbourne preferred, however other locations to be considered
