Carers Australia is the national peak body representing Australia’s over 2.7 million unpaid carers, advocating on their behalf to influence policies and services at a national level, continually working to build awareness of Carers needs and representing their interests.

This is your opportunity to harness the knowledge and expertise of the federation, building on a national coalition working to improve the health, wellbeing, resilience and financial security of Carers and to ensure that caring is a shared responsibility of family, community and government across the country.

Reporting to the Board you will be responsible for representing the interests and advocating on behalf of Carers at a national level. You will work collaboratively with key state and territory carer associations and with a broad range of stakeholders including government and other Regional Delivery Partners to ensure we have an Australia that values and supports the contribution that unpaid Carers make both to the people they care for and to the community as a whole.

You will be recognised as an effective and authentic leader, be an excellent communicator, have a strong relational approach and value effective partnerships. Your innovative, entrepreneurial style will engage and lead the organisation, promoting and leading Carers Australia to achieve strategic and operational excellence, building and maintaining high level connections across government.

Leading a small team and working with a range of collaborative state and territory stakeholders, you will actively work to identify and research emerging issues, gather evidence to enable the development of national policy positions and advocate on behalf of carers promoting their long term interests across Australia. You will have the proven ability to distil diverse and complex information, as well as harness the knowledge, capacity and influence of members into advocacy positions which clearly contribute to policy development and system change.

A background in advocacy and government policy development along with relevant academic qualifications and an understanding of carers and their role in the community will be highly regarded.
