Since our establishment in 1936, Cancer Council Victoria has developed an international reputation for our innovative work in cancer research, prevention and support. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we play a leading role in reducing the impact of all cancers on all people.

The Prevention Division aims to reduce the risk of cancer in the Victorian population through social marketing, advocacy, professional training and providing policy advice based on the best available evidence. This involves action to affect individual behaviours as well as to influence the broader physical and legislative environment.

The Prevention Division includes a broad range of cancer prevention and screening programs including the Achievement Program which aims to support workplaces, schools and early childhood services to enhance their health promoting environments. It does this through assisting organisations to achieve set quality standards and by providing a fully integrated quality framework for prevention. The Achievement Program sets quality benchmarks for health promotion action, as well as providing consistency across Victoria as part of the broader community effort to improve health and wellbeing.

About your opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Health Promotion Officer to join the Prevention Division. Reporting to the Healthy Communities and Nutrition Manager your role is to:

  • Support the implementation of program activities to engage and progress Victorian settings in a new and exciting healthy eating Initiative.
  • Provide direct support to schools, community settings and sports clubs to make healthy food and drink changes to their environments.
  • Develop resources, contribute to communications and engage with partners and health promoters to drive engagement in the initiative
  • Provide expert advice to members through high quality, proactive and responsive phone and email assistance.
  • Support the implementation of key projects relating to continuous process and program improvements.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in health promotion, public health, social sciences OR a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience supporting program/project implementation in an education, public health, health promotion, community or related context.
  • Sound understanding of settings-based health promotion principles.
  • Well-developed relationship management skills with a demonstrated ability to contribute to collaborations and build relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in organising work priorities to be able to meet deadlines and deal with a variety of tasks concurrently.
