The opportunity

Reporting to the Alcohol Programs Manager, as part of the Cancer Prevention and Research division, you will coordinate alcohol prevention policy and research projects at Cancer Council WA.

This position is open to a range of levels of experience. Graduates with relevant training are encouraged to apply for this exciting opportunity and may be considered at a Project Officer level.

Based in Subiaco, this position is part-time (0.6 FTE) and fixed term until June 2027.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Contributing to the progress of alcohol harm prevention policy, including monitoring the policy environment, maintaining an awareness of policy-relevant evidence, and writing policy-related documents (e.g. submissions, objections, reports, briefing notes, blogs).
  • Providing support to local governments seeking to progress alcohol harm prevention initiatives.
  • Undertaking policy-relevant research projects to inform and progress alcohol policy priorities.
  • Preparing content for communications channels (e.g. e-newsletters, social media, web) to share updates about alcohol programs and extend public education campaign messages.
  • Contributing to the planning and delivery of activities and reporting in line with contractual arrangements with funders.
  • Developing external stakeholder relationships to support collaboration.
  • Representing Cancer Council WA at meetings, seminars and other events.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in a health-related field
  • Experience in the development and delivery of public health research, programs and campaigns is desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of state and national policy landscape for preventing harm from alcohol use
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and report writing
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of health research methods
  • Knowledge of current local and national cancer control priorities is desired
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
  • Positive approach to the workplace
