What does a Youth Worker do?

Lots of things!

This is a casual role where you’ll be working at Moruya Youth Refuge and support young people (15 yrs- 17 yrs old) in a range of areas. We are looking for a Youth Worker who is available to work flexible hours Monday to Sunday for day and night shifts & are happy to be part of the rotating roster.

On an average day, you could be:

  • Supporting young people who are experiencing homelessness assisting them with things like emotional support, mental health, sexual health, housing, education, employment opportunities and more
  • Assisting young people Participating with them in different daily with activities throughout the day including living skills, transport and accessing services. like outings, teaching them to cook, do laundry, cleaning dishes etc.

What are we looking for in a Youth Worker?

  • Minimum qualification of Cert III in Youth Work or similar service discipline
  • Knowledge of issues faced by young people and their families
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working with Culturally Diverse Communities including our Aboriginal Community.
  • Experience working with young people individually and in groups
  • Able to obtain a National Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Have a respectful and trauma informed approach towards youth and family work.
  • Have reliable transport and a current driving licence
  • Ability to work in crisis-situation
  • Basic computer skills
