The  Financial Counselling  Intake Worker  provides  initial contact services  for  the Financial Counselling Practice, collecting data so that financial counsellors can  target their expertise where most needed.  The Intake Worker supports  financial counsellors  with their  delivery of  financial counselling services,  ensuring  the work  integrates with  the organisation’s goal  to bring about broader change through the integration of casework, policy and campaign work.   

This challenging and varied role includes:

  • Undertaking initial call screening;
  • Keeping up to date with referral pathways and options, and connecting callers to referral services where appropriate and necessary;
  • Supporting the team with file administration, as delegated;
  • Supporting the team in working to identify legal and policy issues arising from financial counselling, and participating in Consumer Action's broader policy and advocacy initiatives.

ABOUT YOU

  • The Financial Counselling  Intake Worker  must  have certificate level qualifications in counselling or community services, or equivalent relevant experience as an intake worker or similar role.
  • Highly developed listening and  communication skills  are required, including the ability to tailor and modify communication to a range of audiences; 
  • You are able to manage potentially  challenging  clients in stressful and emotionally charged situations; 
  • You must be organised, have a good eye for detail, computer literate and familiar with a range of office technologies. Proficient touch-typing will be an advantage;
  • You enjoy working as part of a team and collaborate effectively with others.

This is a 12 month, fixed-term position.

Full-time or part-time (4 days per week) may be considered.

Positions will ultimately be based at our office in Melbourne CBD, with interim working from home arrangements in place for all staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The salary range offered is between $64,000 - $68,000 commensurate with experience, plus superannuation. Consumer Action Law Centre offers salary packaging, therefore depending upon personal financial circumstances the value of the salary may be equivalent to up to approximately $5,000 - $8,000 higher.
