Our vision: a just marketplace where people have power and business plays fair.
Our purpose: to make life easier for people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage in Australia.
We’re an independent, not-for-profit consumer organisation based in Melbourne. We use our skills in the law, financial counselling, policy and campaigning and lead change to policy, law and industry practice across a range of consumer issues, informed by our experience assisting and representing people in Victoria.
In 2019, Consumer Action Law Centre was proud to be awarded the Access to Justice Award by the Law Institute of Victoria. Consumer Action supported 5 clients to give evidence at the Royal Commission into Banking Misconduct. We also made significant policy submissions about law reform to prevent harm to vulnerable members of the community and to provide fast and adequate redress to those consumers who have already lost money due to misconduct in the financial services industry.
If the idea of working in an award-winning organisation that has real impact and connections with issues capturing attention across Australia appeals to you, then we’d love to hear from you.
The Director of Legal Practice leads a legal practice of approximately 15 practitioners who provide telephone legal advice services to consumers and community workers, and who conduct advocacy and strategic litigation including in higher courts.
Could you be our new Director of Legal Practice?
A competitive salary is offered, including generous superannuation and FBT salary packaging arrangements.
Consumer Action offers flexible working conditions with a highly engaged, high-performing and passionate team.
Consumer Action Law Centre is committed to building a diverse and culturally safe workplace. We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal people, people with disability, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, people of all ages, and LGBTIQA+ people.
